The Montcalm Luxury Hotels have put their unique ‘stamp’ on the former Royal Mail head office in London, by transforming an imposing listed building into a distinctive new hotel offer, with 253 tech-ready rooms.
The Burdock café bar and restaurant brings energy to the lobby area on the ground floor, while the hotel’s own pub and micro-brewery, The Long Arm, sits adjacent, with an entrance on Worship Street. Royal London House progressed in phases from June 2016 until completion in March 2017, with the main part of the CES installation contained within a three-month period. The catering equipment package is valued at £500,000.
“The key to the success of this project,” explains CES MD Anna McNamara, “was ensuring continuity.
“We were working over several different areas of the hotel at the same time, installing back of house facilities, basement prep and storage area, bars including the pub, a juice bar and a lobby bar, as well as the kitchen itself.
“We were working in conjunction with the building contractor, architect, food & beverage consultants as well as the client.
“The hotel very much has its own unique style and there were late changes to the design concept that required careful managing to ensure we achieved the desired standard of finish.
“Projects like these are very much a collaborative process; it has to be give and take to get the job done right…and if we help the other contractors, then they will help us and, ultimately, the whole project runs more smoothly.”
Says Steven Sands, Cluster Operations Manager, The Montcalm Luxury Hotels: –
“First and foremost, I know the quality of CES because they have worked on previous kitchen and foodservice projects for The Montcalm Luxury Hotels.
“The fact that they were selected for Royal London House is a testament to the quality of their project management and their installation and commissioning teams.
“This project ran for almost nine months and communication was made harder because my role involves looking after the interests of a number of properties, so I was frequently off-site.
“However, CES maintained good communications throughout, went out of their way to be helpful, collaborated well with other contractors and were pro-active in dealing with any technical or building issues.
“The Montcalm Luxury Hotels continually strive for excellence and aim to maintain reputably high standards and I am delighted to have found that CES does the same.”
